I REMEMBER MANY OF THOSE PATTERNS

by : BU SOFIE

If there is an order for a refined batik, I use a drawn pattern so that the results will be better and match the desired motif. I do the drawing myself. I don’t have the patterns myself, but Bu Harti as several old patterns that can be used if someone orders one of them. She also has a very old motif from the palace.

However, for a rough batik, I can draw the pattern on myself without referring to the drawn example. I just do it from my memory.  I remember these motifs because I make them often. I batik almost every day.

After drawing the outline of the motif, then fill in the details and dots, and fill in the background with various decorations such as ukel, cantel, gabah sinawur, kembang pacar, etc., thicken the wax the design on the opposite side, then wax over the areas that will remain white. I do everything except the dots because they are very intricate and tiny.  I could do it before, but my eyesight is no longer good enough, so other people do it.

When the waxing process is finished, I do the next processes with the Bimasakti group. These final processes are the dyeing and rinsing processes. ***
